I had all these fantastic plans to save my check-in baggage and take the subway into the city and go hit my old neighborhood.
, I thought that I would have time to take the road of the Kings and Knightsbridge, Kensington High Street and Notting Hill - that does not need to buy in fact everything that I could just walk and walk the streets and neighbourhoods where my career started and where I started my wild 20s. Hell, I would even have the time to put at the top of Camden town. It would be perfect!
right up until I actually looked at my ticket and saw that my 12 hour layover was from 22:00 until 10:00.
so now I had to find a way to play in one of the most expensive cities in the world. A cab ride and a hotel could be super expensive, but I wasn't about to sit down at Heathrow Terminal 5 for 12 hours.
some international airports with long stopovers have hotels that you reserve at the time, inside the Terminal. So I decided to check this option in case where Heathrow, and low and this is I found that they have one in Terminal 4.
Yotel is a fantastic concept for long distance travellers. Instead of large rooms you book on the day, they are more like the area of anchorage on a ship or a large cabin train during the night. It is a micro-hotel and that's all that tired of long distance traveller's needs.
A Yotel room is super simplified, immaculate and very modern. You have a bed with a big fluffy comforter and a flat-screen TV, a slither of a bathroom with a shower of monsoon, a desk and a Chair.
everything you need to refresh, get a few hours of sleep and take your next flight without dealing with traffic and a ride.
your luggage checked through to your final destination, so it's just you, your operations, a hot shower and sleep a good night.
you book and pay online advance so check and select on are very fast. Walk through the main entrance to walk in my room was maybe 5 minutes. No standing around lines, no waiting for the elevators and walking the hallways of mammoths in a hotel with hundreds of rooms.
Yotel is relatively low. I don't know how many rooms they have, but guess it is less than 100.
Yotel Heathrow is outside the Terminal, you don't have to go back through security before your flight, unlike terminals Hotels in Changi in Singapore, who are locked inside the Terminal.
Yotel was inside the Terminal 5 I would has still all my makeup, hair care trips and produced toiletries - you can I'm always irritated in their version of TSA confiscate my things?
regardless, Yotel was a fantastic experience.
I got my room for 7 hours and it cost 72 pounds, then a bit more $US120. It was worth every penny.
a small Board, book your Yotel as quickly as possible. While I was there it was full, and the young man who checked me says that they are almost always 100% occupancy.
the chances of you wrap and be able to secure a room last minute are slim to none.
