this week, I am interested in unusual things to do in Rome things. Or maybe just some things you didn't know about or perhaps forgotten.

Rome has so many layers and textures (literally!) and most of the tourists to the city miss them completely.

after touring the Teatro Marcello in yesterday's post, today we will walk to the other side of it and one of the coolest, most elegant of the city, the Jewish Ghetto.

across the Teatro Marcello is the Jewish Ghetto. The Jewish community has a fascinating history in Rome. They lived in Rome pre Christianity and more accounts have been well met. The Jewish people lived separated from the heart of Rome in my neighborhood, the Trastevere. (meaning across the River Tiber).

in 1555 Pope Paul IV sent down a papal demanding that the Jews of Rome to be moved in a fortified area closed, now known as the ghetto. They closed the night and released to work every morning. Between 2000 and 3500 have been initially sequestered it in deplorable conditions. 

now the area is great vibey and cool. Although still a tiny territory is a wonderful area to explore and dine.

I love you over lunch at Ba' Ghetto and Nonna Betta. Try the lasagne Jew (fried) and the Roman Carciofi (boiled and served with a sauce on top).

although once impoverished area is now super expensive, with apartment prices so expensive that very few can afford to live here.

Saturday afternoon in the Jewish Ghetto

the photo above was taken a Saturday afternoon. Not even 5 minutes walk from the thousands of tourists, it was cold and quiet, and there were open tables to sit and enjoy a spritz late afternoon and have a snack.

is another thing that I love the Jewish Ghetto in Rome, he has guards at the end of Teatro Marcello, which, by default, keep all itinerant immigrants to arrive and harassment buy you selfie sticks and bezel. Here you are basically just hanging with local Super chic and cool.
