I have this theory when traveling. If Plan A goes awry, Plan B is always much better anyway.

and that's how it was when I went to Caserta.

as I was running to the top of the stairs to the platform, the train was out of the station. My perfect plan to spend hours and hours of Caserta came on the side. The next train wasn't for more than an hour.

once I finally arrived in Caserta the Lady at the cash register told me to hurry and go to the gardens first, they would close in an hour. You can rent bicycles and ride the 7 km return up the garden and return, which had been my plan, but the bike rental guy wouldn't me rent because of the closing of the garden in an hour.

I walked, which proved to be the most perfect option! It was a great afternoon of December, sunny and t-shirt weather, ideal for walking in the gardens of the Palace. Had I rented a bike I would have been stop every two minutes to take pictures anyway, so I was happy as a clam. 7 km round-trip all I only saw maybe 40 people (including workers), so it was almost like having the whole place to myself.

Plan b great once as I walked inside the Palace itself because this afternoon Monday in December, I was literally the only person there.

If you have never visited a Palace in Europe, you already know how exasperating full of tourists they are all, all the time.

, normally you cannot get a clear picture of what it is because there are so many people in the way.

on the other hand, it was absolutely surreal. There was just me and and empty Palace.

every now and then a room would have a worker inside, but I basically could have run naked through the square and not met a soul!

at one point in one of the lounges large I decided to take advantage of having the place to myself and played a few Verdi on my iPhone.

no one to stop me, I lay down on the floor of the throne room and took in the ceiling, while La Traviata played.

, it was great! Then, because you only live once, I danced my way around the show entire Verdi then Delibes, Dervishes round and round like crazy. The kind of crazy with red hair, who has a whole Palace all to herself.

I sat beside a dancer Italian ball once room on a flight to Sicily. We have always remained friends, and I kept thinking about how it would have been him here with me, dance around my private amusement Palace.

Caserta is emphatic and yet delicious. And it's huge ! It gives you an amazing overview in the world that has been, and you cannot but be impressed by the magnificent how he should be at his peak.

Unfortunately, the chances of having the Palace for me all me are slim to none. 
, I found that, earlier that day there was some thousands of visitors to the Palace. My missed the first train meant that I arrived as they were all leaving. My day went as expected I would have been there with the masses and would not have had a whole Palace to myself.
I also discovered the day before 10,000 visitors come to the Palace.

at the end of this perfect Plan b day I asked the man in the library of the Palace was somewhere nearby where I couldsee a glass of wine before taking the train to Salerno.
