I always read people who pack a month worth of travel in a carry-on, and much that part of me is impressed with how clever, it's the rest of me is horrified at the idea of wearing the same thing over and over again!
when people tell me that they pack a black dress and the next day wear with a blue scarf and hey presto! a whole new outfit! I always just think ' no, you do not have the same now dirty black dress with a blue scarf. " No difference. "

I actually working relatively hard to have elements who mix and match and create lots of outfits different, based on a neutral palette, but bothers me as stupid. That part of me that thinks that a trip abroad is a big deal, and that is why I want to wear clothes that I like and feel happy in there. And for me who tends to be bright colors that don't necessarily mix and match. Then how pack everything becomes a little more important because even if I wear what I take with me, according to the standards of most people is too much.

buy a really good suitcase. 

I'm clearly not a backpack or gym bag girl, although when I started to travel I would have been happy.
A couple of years ago, I changed the bags and bought a 25 inch Samsonite suitcase.
when you do shop for suitcases look the construction on everything else. The shops are full of super mild, but more crash if a heavy bag falls on them, which means something fragile, you have inside, will break. buy not black.

when you're standing on the baggage carousel after 10 hours of flight and you're exhausted, look at how many black suitcases go swirling by you. They all look the same, which makes it easy for another traveler tired of searching your and head out into the world with it.
I bought a red suitcase, one of my guests last year brought an orange. They were easy to spot, and there was very little circling by us in the same colors.

get wheels of 360 degrees.

so important! The handling difference is amazing, and the reduction in the constraints on the back worth its weight in gold!
this is another reason to buy a case of quality, because you want wheels that stay and do not break your suitcase must be thown around baggage handlers.

size matters.

I can not really do something smaller than a case of 25 inches, but I'm certainly not all great. I have friends who travel with a 23 inches, but it's too small for me. Always keep in mind, you go up your bag and down the baggage carousel and find out how you get it from and where you're going. More the bag, more you are going to fill.

do not use a hard box carry on bag.

this may seem strange. Years, I used a rigid rolling luggage. He was the genius in the airport, right up until I got my suitcase on the carousel, at which point it was hell. Travel especially in Europe where you found and down trains, maneuvers along the cobble stoned streets and climbing stairs to your apartment.
I now use a soft carry-on, and as soon as I got my suitcase luggage I put hand inside, leaving me with only a suitcase and my bag in hand. Frankly, this is one of my best travel hacks ever!

roll your clothes.

my mother is a GlobeTrotter and super chic. She told me years to roll my clothes when I pack them to stop creasing and maximize space. It took me a while to get on board with him, but now I drive all my clothes.

use packing cubes.

it's the best thing ever, especially if you need clothes for different occasions and climates. I use Eagle Creek packing cubes , and I have them in a variety of sizes. I compartmentalize different parts of each trip, the clothing and clothing of Division into categories and I have a cube for lingerie and swimsuits, t-shirts and tanks, one for skirts and dresses - you get the picture. It made travel much easier. 
I also have a small cube that I use for all my Chargers and electronic gadgets. I still know where everything is, and I never have to rifle through a suitcase to find something.
, I always Pack a cube with three days worth of clothes and necessities in the case where my suitcase does not happen with me. Again, it keep everything super organized.
